My daughter and I signed up for a “scrabble tile pendant” class at Not Simply Beads at Village Landing Marketplace in Plymouth last Thursday night. We had so much fun! We both learned how to make scrabble tile pendants (so cute!) and had some nice mom/daughter time. Not Simply Beads has a ton of classes from necklaces to bracelets to painting and more! You can see their schedule online here. They even do birthday parties…lots of fun for a preteen girl party. (and moms…their classes would make a great girls nite out too!) Check them out next time you’re in Plymouth!

Stargazing
I love stargazing with my family. The night sky was amazing to look at this past weekend! I noticed a really bright star in the southwestern sky and found out it was Venus (with Mars and Saturn right nearby). This weekend coming up is a great time to get outside and watch the skies…the Perseids Meteor Shower is this weekend. It’s peak is the early morning of August 13th but you can generally see the meteors starting August 11th. The best time to watch just before daybreak while it’s still very dark but you can start viewing after midnight. I found this great site that tells you what’s going on in the night sky every night: EarthSky. The kids are excited to watch for the “shooting stars” since we can usually find a few without having to stay up to midnight with them, lol!

Classes at Jordan Hospital
Came across a class I’m going to have my 10 year old son take called Home Alone and Staying Safe. They have it once a month on a Saturday. My son is rarely home alone but I thought this would be really good for him to have under his belt. It’s for kids in 4th and 5th grade and is 3 hours long. They learn about safety, first aid and preventing emergencies as well as basic self defense. Cost is $40.
They also have a Babysitter Safety Course for kids aged 11 1/2 and up to teach new & seasoned babysitters about safety, child care skills, first aid and how to handle emergencies. This class is 4 hours long and also costs $40.
Great classes for us moms with older kids!

Outdoor Movie Night in Plymouth
The Arc of Greater Plymouth has moved their outdoor movie from tonight to tomorrow night, August 7th at 8:20pm due to mosquito spraying. Head on down to the 1820 Courthouse Green and watch the “Bee Movie”. There will be popcorn and drinks, crafts and games! Sounds like fun and looks like it will be perfect weather for it!

Lego KidsFest
Ok…my sons are lego fanatics! I know they are not going to want to miss this event! The Lego KidsFest is coming to Boston at the Hynes Convention Center on September 25 & 26! There’s 2 sessions each day, 9-2 or 3-8. There will be life size lego models including Batman, Darth Vader, Indiana Jones, Thomas the Tank Engine, SpongeBob and more. (my kids are going to be in heaven!)
Tickets go on sale August 5th.
Also…the Braintree Lego Store has monthly mini model builds on the first Tuesday of the month. This Tuesday, August 3 at 5pm, you can build a seagull.
