Great American Backyard Campout

The Great American Backyard Campout is this weekend! It's looking like it's going to be GREAT weather so why not pitch a tent in the backyard and have some fun?

Round up the neighbors and have a neighborhood campout...or gather all the cousins and sleep outside. We're having a bunch of families join us to pitch tents, sit around the campfire and do s'mores and have fun!

There's lots of outdoor games you can play, chase some fireflies, sing songs around the campfire, do some stargazing or even do Ranger Rick's Night Owl Challenge. If you're looking for some recipes, check out Hershey's Website for some great ideas!

Remember how much time you spent outside as a kid? Encourage your kids to spend more time outside too...a backyard campout is a great way to start and just think of the memories they will have. =)

National Wildlife Week

March 15-21 is National Wildlife Week.  If you visit the National Wildlife Week website, they have lots of outside activities you can do with the kids.

You can print a Family Activity Passport which has different activities for you to do with the kids on each day of the week.  (You have to do a super short survey first)  The passport is customized to your area as well.

The goal is to get kids outside for an extra hour observing wildlife, doing outdoor activities and maybe some good old fashioned games!  There’s even a photo contest for kids!

For more outside activities you can do with the kids, check out this page.  And mark your calendars for the Great American Backyard Campout on June 26th.  (We did this last year and it was tons of fun!)

Great American Backyard Campout

Join families over the US in the Great American Backyard Campout on Saturday, June 27th!

The event is sponsored by the National Wildlife Federation and they want kids to reconnect with nature. What's easier than setting up camp in your backyard?

You visit their website and get more information and even register your own campsite!

I'm doing it....I know the kids will love it! Let me know if you're doing it too! =)
