Hanson Children’s Museum

Project1 Thanks to Kerry for forwarding this to me:

A new children’s museum is scheduled to open in Hanson this Fall! The Hanson Children’s Museum will be a hands on history museum. There will be 17 exhibits designed to inspire children’s interest in American history! Kids can play and interact with Abe Lincoln on our Mt. Rushmore Climb, or hop into a roadster from the 50's in our Fabulous 50’s Fantastic Rides exhibit! We will strive to connect Americans to their history by using play and family involvement.

The Hanson Children’s Museum will be offering many great services to be enjoyed by the community. Area schools can plan field trips to the museum, which will include grade level curriculum based lessons that teachers can continue in their classrooms! We will also have kid’s workshops to be held on ½ days and school vacations! Birthday Parties, Family & Kids Nights Out and Educator Workshops are just a few more of the exciting things planned at the museum!

Please check out our website for more information and upcoming events. And you can follow us on facebook for the latest news on the museums progress! We look forward to seeing you and your children at the museum!

Hanson Bowladrome

Last week the kids had an early release day so we decided to take them over to the Hanson Bowladrome on Reed Street.  This place has nothing fancy, just plain ol’ bowling.  We were the only ones there for most of the time until 2 grandmas showed up with some of their grandkids.

Pricing was pretty reasonable….$1.00 for shoe rentals then $3.00 per string played.  Me & the kids played for close to 2 hours for $26.  Not too bad!  No extra fees for the bumpers up or anything!

Check them out next time you’re looking for something to do or if you want to avoid crowds, lol.  Their hours are Sun 1-9 Mon 5-9 Tues 9-4 5-9 Wed. 5-9 Thur. 9-4 5-9 Fri 5-10 Sat. 9- til the last person is gone I guess since it was blank.

Huge Blueberries!

Today we ventured to The Blueberry Farm on West Washington Street (Rt. 14) in Hanson to do some blueberry picking. I was nervous when we got there at 9:30 and the sign said "wet conditions...opening at noon" but the owner Pat let us pick anyways.

Love this place!

Tons of big fat blueberries and they were very sweet & yummy! There's tables and chairs in a field between the bushes for sitting, having coffee or even for lunch and there's a porta potty there if you need it. ;) The owner is so nice too! Blueberries are $2.25 per pint. They have a nice handout with proper storage tips and even some yummy recipes I can't wait to try.

I'll definitely go back next year...and will even bring a picnic lunch!

I haven't been to the local storytime at my library in a long time! Now that my 5 and 8 year olds are in school, I think it's time to take my 2 year old to the libary for it. He loves me to read to him so I think he'll like it. Here's a listing of local library storytimes & events:

Carver Library
Halifax Library
Pembroke Library
Plympton Library
Hanson Library
Kingston Library

The storytimes are held on lots of different days so you could hit them all in a week if you're looking for things to do with the little ones!

Favorite Ice Cream Places

Summer's here and that means it's Ice Cream Time!! EJ's favorite is Cookie Dough, Maddie loves Mint Chocolate Chip, Lucas eats anything but we get him Chocolate Chip. I have a few favorites I go between...vanilla fudge, coffee fudge, strawberry. My husband like Moose Tracks or Strawberry Cheesecake. We've never met an ice cream place that we didn't like but here's our list of favorites:
  • Erickson's, Carver. It's right on Rt. 58 and is very close. They have all the flavors that we like and is the place we go when we by default.
  • Mea's Dairy, Halifax. They have soft serve so if we're in the mood for that, that's the place to go! My husband really likes their mocha frappes and visits often since he goes by there every day.
  • Eastover Farm, Rochester. This little gem was found by mistake! We were driving around that area and stumbled across the ice cream sign. It's a little farm that serves ice cream, hot dogs as well as fruits and vegetables. They even do hayrides on the weekends!
  • Kimballs, Jaffrey NH: We try and stop here at least once a year on our way to vacation in NH. We've been to the one in Westford too but the Jaffrey one is not as commercialized. Try the Kimball Special and see if you can finish it!
  • Heidi's Hollow, Hanson: They have yummy ice crea and a great variety of things for sale inside too.
  • There's a new place here in Carver that just opened...I can't remember the name of it. Portions seem small but we'll see how it goes....

It's Almost Blueberry Picking Time!

The kids love to go blueberry picking and have me make up some yummy treats with them. Our place of choice is a Blueberry picking farm on N. Carver Road in Wareham. It's just off Rt. 58, near Rt. 495. Parking is on the side of the road. I don't even know if this place has an actual name! Picking usually starts mid to late July. Hours are 8-5 daily!

Another local place is the Blueberry Farm in Hanson. They are on W. Washington St. off Rt. 14.

We've been to a place on the Plympton/Halifax line a few years ago but I think Sauchuk Farm purchased them and I don't know if they still do the PYO.

Here's a great site to find PYO farms locally: PickYourOwn.org
